Aklavik has a diesel operated power generator operated by the Northwest Territories Power Corporation. Water and sewer services are trucked. Aklavik has full postal and telephone service. It also has 256k Internet, satellite and cable television services.
There is an RCMP detachment in Aklavik that has two police officers and volunteer fire fighters from the community staff a fire hall.
The Susie Husky Health and Social Services Centre staffs four nurses. Patients are sent out of the community for emergency services and other medical professionals visit the community on a rotational basis.
The Moose Kerr Secondary School provides education from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The school is named after long-time principal Arnold J Kerr, who strived to incorporate local culture into the daily learning environment. There is also an Aurora College Community Learning Centre where students can access language, basic education and post-secondary courses through Aurora College.
