The town of Hay River wants to expand its trail system.
The director of Recreation and Community Services for the town, Ross DeBoer, says they want to link all of the paths together.
"Hay River's pretty fortunate in that we've got somewhere in the neighbourhood of 11 kilometres of trails or potential trails, but they're somewhat piecemeal at present," he said. "We have trails in our Old Town and we have trails in our New Town, but not necessarily a convenient or safe link to the trails, so what we're trying to do is seam these trails together."
He said they want to install lighting along dimmer parts of the trail, as well as expand it past the airport.
DeBoer said they are thinking about paving more parts of the walkway, so people with quads, strollers and bikes can also enjoy them.
The town has budgeted $135,000 to expand and connect the trails and they hope to start construction this summer.
